I just read your statement of what determines whether a life settlement is a viatical. Youe seem to indicate that the sole determining factor is whether the insured is living with a life-shortening terminal illness. Are there not 3 other items to consider in determining what is merely a Life Settlement as opposed to what is a Viatical Settlement?

The author had a big error in the article, he stated:

“A viatical is an investment in which investors buy shares in the life insurance policies of terminally ill patients.”

This is not accurate at all, a viatical investment is where investors can buy shares of the life insurance policy. The investors are actually investing in the viatical, the viatical is not an investment itself.

My father who passed away November 2004 invested in viatical settlements with Skip Jaehne quite a few years ago, we have called and called for information only to get the same response from Skip “nobody has died yet”. The last call we made to Skip trying to find out the status of the two people that my father invested in was answered with “I am working with a skeleton crew and we can no longer track the status of each person, so I am unable to give you an update”. I personally think we stand to lose all that my father invested (over $20,000) and the entire family is quite upset and very angry with Skip Jaehne and would love to see this schmuck behind bars. Please let us know what we can do to fight this man to get my father’s investment back. I’m not sure how this man sleeps at night knowing what he has done to all of the families that have used their hard earned money to invest in his line of crap but we would love to make sure that he pays dearly for this. Please help.

We are in the process of beginning a life settlement program. If we can obtain life settlements which are or can be bonded by an �A� rated bonding company, we are in a position to purchase up to 30 million to begin with.

We have a bank who has given us a commitment to take an �A� rated bond and loan against that bond to allow us to purchase more life settlements.

Like stated above, in most cases a viatical settlement is tax free.

I have a read a few articles about this system, we feel it is a decent idea but what is left is the benefit to the consumer. Lffe Settlement Pro puts the policy holder and agent first, the reason a broker is used is to receive the highest offer for the client. That is why negotiations can take a few weeks, in some cases the client is waiting to get a higher offer.

Another problem we see is that the auction winner (funder) might when an auction but if the amount is not what the policy owner was looking for, the settlement will not happen.
